Evo-ERP Requirements

Evo-ERP Requirements

Hardware Requirements

Evo-ERP is designed to run in a server-client network environment. The server can be a dedicated server machine or you can use a workstation in your network as the server depending on your needs.

Evo-ERP can also run on a virtual server such as in a cloud environment provided the operating system and environment of the virtual server is supported. In this environment, you can have users connect via remote desktop to the virtual network or have physical workstations access Evo-ERP through a network connection, but keep in mind that Evo-ERP does not perform well if your virtual server is not in the same local network as the client machines that are running it, which is why we recommend using remote desktop in this situation.

Any typical modern server or desktop machine should be sufficient to run Evo-ERP, but a large portion of the workload is performed by the database engine (Actian Zen/Pervasive PSQL) so please see the system requirements for that product when deciding what kind of server you will need.

Actian Zen/Pervasive PSQL

To run Evo-ERP, you must have the Actian Zen (previously known as Pervasive PSQL/Btrieve) database engine installed on the server and the Actian Zen client installed on each workstation that will run Evo-ERP. This is a separate product that must be purchased either through us (we are an Actian reseller) or another supplier.

Evo-ERP 2026.1 supports Actian Zen/Pervasive PSQL version 11 or later. Versions of Evo-ERP older than 2026.1 can use older versions of Pervasive PSQL but we recommend upgrading if possible. Actian currently only offers enterprise support for Actian Zen 15 and later and extended support for Actian Zen 14 and later (see Gold Star Software for more information on Actian Zen support timelines).

Operating System Requirements

Evo-ERP is designed to work in a Windows environment. As of 2025.1, we support servers using Windows Server 2012 R2 and later or if your server is a workstation, Windows 10 or later. For workstations, we support Windows 10 and later.

Although not officially supported, we have some customers using a Linux server instead of a Windows server to run Evo-ERP. Actian does offer Zen for Linux and the license is the same for Windows and Linux. If you do have a Linux server, please contact tech support and we can work with you to set up Evo-ERP and Actian Zen, but we cannot make any guarantees for such an environment.

Network Requirements

Some parts of Evo-ERP require an Internet connection. Once installed, Evo-ERP can function without an active Internet connection but it is not recommended because you may not be able to perform some tasks such as installing patches or emailing directly from Evo-ERP. General operations of Evo-ERP do not require an active Internet connection, but each workstation will need a network connection to the Actian Zen server and the ability to access a shared folder to reach the Evo-ERP files on the server. Evo-ERP license installation, updating and uninstallation does require an Internet connection.

Actian Zen should function without an Internet connection, but one will be required for license authorization and deauthorization. Actian Zen uses the following ports: TCP 1583 for the relational components and ODBC and TCP/UDP 3351 for Btrieve access. It may also use TCP 137-139 for NetBIOS authentication.
